RNI (Registrar of Newspapers for India) registration is a mandatory formality under Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867 of India and it applies to all types of publishers of the newspapers including individuals, HUF, Partnership firm, company. This is granted and published by the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI), a department working under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It consists of a series of phases that includes title checking, publisher's declaration and deposit of the first issue. 1. Title Verification: Apply online to get the proposed title verified and approved by RNI.
2. Authentication of Declaration: Submit the declaration to the District Magistrate or equivalent authority.
3. Publication of First Issue: For daily or weekly publications, the first issue should be published within 42 days of declaration authentication. For fortnightly or higher periodicity, it extends to 90 days.
4. Submission to RNI: Submit all required documents and first issue copy to RNI.
5. RNI Certificate Issuance: Upon successful review, RNI will issue the registration certificate.

• Publishing Without Registration Publishing without RNI registration may attract legal penalties under the Press and Registration of Books Act.
